From Mourning To Morning

  • Psalms 30:5

“For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor, a lifetime. Weeping may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning.”

Psychology Analogy: The Brain and Difficult Seasons

When we’re going through something painful, our brain naturally focuses more on the present moment. When you’re overwhelmed, it can feel like, “I’m always going to feel this way.”

Psychology calls this kind of thinking emotional reasoning: because something feels permanent right now, we assume it will stay that way.

But emotions change. Just like the night naturally gives way to morning, difficult emotions can change with time, support, rest, and new experiences.

That connects beautifully with Psalms 30:5:

The verse doesn’t deny that the night exists. It acknowledges the tears. But it also reminds us that the night isn’t the whole story.

Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of a difficult season, you can’t imagine feeling okay again. But what you feel right now doesn’t determine what you’ll feel forever.

And as Christians, we have something even deeper than psychology: we don’t wait for the morning alone. God is with us through the night. And He is with us in our mournings and He will be with us in the mornings.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for reminding us that there is joy in the morning. We pray that in the difficult seasons of our lives, You would continue to stay close to our hearts and give us new hope and strength.

Carry us through our mourning and into the morning. Remind us that our tears will not last forever and that You are with us through every season. Help us trust You in the darkness and believe that joy is still to come.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
