Speaker: Sia Kim Pu — No Longer Thirsty
God gives us love. If you use what He gives you in the right way, it’s love.
If you misuse it, it will hurt you.
If you love the wrong person, it will hurt you. You think you’ll be satisfied, but if you break up, you will feel empty and lonely.
Love the right person. If you find the right person, you’ll feel safe and secure.
God commands us not to be unequally yoked with nonbelievers.
Be the right person. You keep searching, but you are never satisfied. When you meet the right person, you can still have disagreements, but you can overcome those disagreements together.
john 4:6–10
The Samaritans and Jews did not mix.
Back in the day, a man would not normally talk with a woman publicly. If they did, it could be seen as inappropriate.
People also didn’t usually carry water at noon because it was hot. But the Samaritan woman went at noon so she wouldn’t have to face anyone.
But love came to her at that time. Jesus went there.
If you feel guilty or unworthy, God will meet you right there.
He will chase you.
His love will come to you at the right time.
In verse 10, Jesus asks her for water. The Samaritan woman wonders why He would ask her, since Jews and Samaritans did not normally interact with each other.
1) the world gives “water” that doesn’t satisfy
john 4:13–14
The more you search, the more thirsty you’ll be.
example: water = guys/girls
We can look for satisfaction in relationships, attention, or other people, but those things will never completely satisfy us.
john 4:16–18
Sometimes you can’t love yourself because of what you’ve done or because of bad habits.
You may feel guilty because of your past.
But Jesus already knew her story.
2) God’s love is sincere, but it is never demanding
3) God’s love is a person, not a performance
john 4:28–30
The Samaritan woman leaves her water jar, the same jar she came with.
She leaves behind the water she came looking for and finds something greater: the Living Water.
→ will you meet the Living Water and leave the jar?
