Feb 4 – What Are You Yoked To?

By February 4th, 2026Devotional

A yoke, a wooden beam or frame, is placed across the necks or shoulders of draft animals, such as oxen, to join them.

This connection enables them to pull heavy loads, like plows or wagons, together. Essentially, a yoke links two beings, allowing them to move in unison, at the same pace, and carrying the same weight.

Whatever you are yoked to helps set your direction, your speed, and the weight you carry. If one ox is stronger and wiser, it guides the weaker one. But if the yoke is uneven or attached to something harmful, the load becomes exhausting and painful.

Jesus speaks directly to this when He says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30). Jesus doesn’t promise a life without weight—but He promises to carry it with us.

Many of us are yoked to expectations, fear, approval, sin, or pressure to perform. Those yokes demand more and more, yet never give rest. They pull us until we’re worn down.

But being yoked to Jesus is different. He sets the pace. He bears the heavier side of the load. When we walk with Him, we aren’t dragged—we’re guided. The closer we stay to Him, the steadier our steps become.

So take a moment to ask yourself honestly: What am I yoked to right now? And does it lead to rest—or to exhaustion?

Because who you’re yoked to will shape where you’re going, and only Jesus offers a yoke that leads to life.
