April 1 – The Choice in Gethsemane

By April 1st, 2026Devotional

Before the crucifixion, there’s Gethsemane.

– Matthew 26:36–39

Not the nails.

Not the shouting.

But the decision.

————-

Jesus knows what’s ahead:

• betrayal – Matthew 26:47–48

• suffering – Matthew 26:67

• the cross – Matthew 27:32–35

————-

He knows what He’s carrying:

• sin

• failure

• everything hidden

————-

“Let this cup pass from me…” – Matthew 26:39

– the weight is real

“Yet not my will, but Yours.” – Luke 22:42

– the decision is made

————-

Everything that follows comes after that:

• the trial

• the beating

• the crucifixion

————-

He bears His cross

— not just the wood, but the weight behind it

— He carries it all the way to the end.

“It is finished.” – John 19:30

Three days later, the tomb is empty. – Matthew 28:5–6

————-

So the cross wasn’t a loss.

And it wasn’t random.

• sin didn’t win

• death didn’t hold Him

• what He carried didn’t stay

————-

Gethsemane shows the choice. The cross shows the cost. The resurrection shows it worked.

What He chose in the garden, He finished at the cross, and proved in the empty tomb.
