How Do You Satisfy Your Thirst?
When you’re thirsty, you do something about it. You don’t just sit there and ignore it. You grab whatever drink is nearby, or you go out of your way to find water because you know your body needs it.
Now imagine being really thirsty and choosing soda or something super sugary instead of water. It might taste good for a moment, but it doesn’t actually hydrate you. You end up still thirsty, maybe even more than before.
That’s what we often do spiritually.
We feel empty, tired, or disconnected, and instead of going to God, we reach for what’s closest. Our phones, people, entertainment—anything that gives quick relief. It feels good for a moment, but it doesn’t truly fill us.
Jesus says in John 7:37,
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.”
He doesn’t say to try everything else first. He simply says, come.
Many of us are spiritually dehydrated, not because God isn’t present, but because we keep turning to things that were never meant to satisfy us.
Just as your body needs real water, your soul needs something real too.
So when you feel that dryness this week, don’t just reach for what is easy. Go to God first. Take time to pray, sit with Him, and be in His Word.
Because only He can truly satisfies that deeper thirst.
