• Malachi 3:3
“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver.”
⸻
1. God Is the Refiner
A refiner takes gold or silver and puts it into fire to remove impurities.
In the same way, God allows trials and struggles in our lives not to destroy us, but to purify our hearts.
Fire reveals what is real.
Sometimes we ask:
• “Why am I going through this?”
• “Why is life so hard right now?”
But God may be refining our faith, character, to build our trust in Him.
• 1 Peter 1:7
“So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold—may be found to result in praise and glory.”
⸻
2. The Refiner Watches Carefully
When refining silver, the refiner never leaves the fire unattended.
He watches closely because too much heat will ruin the metal.
The same is true with God.
He knows exactly how much pressure we can handle.
• 1 Corinthians 10:13
“God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.”
God never abandons us in the fire.
He is watching, guiding, and shaping us.
⸻
3. The Goal of the Fire
The refiner keeps purifying the metal until he can see his reflection in it.
That is God’s goal for us —
to shape us until we reflect Christ in our lives.
• Romans 8:29
“For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.”
⸻
When life feels like fire:
• God is not punishing you
• God is refining to make you more like Christ
The fire is not the end — it is part of the process.
