May 13 – Identify In Christ

By May 13th, 2026Devotional

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

—————

Needing constant affirmation from people can show that we’ve forgotten who we are in Christ.

When your identity depends on people’s opinions, their approval starts controlling your confidence. If you constantly live off praise, your ego will eventually depend on it. You begin chasing compliments, recognition, and validation just to feel secure.

But praise from people never lasts. One moment they celebrate you, and the next moment they criticize you. That’s why building your identity on people is unstable. A person who constantly seeks praise will eventually rely on it to feel worthy.

—————

Identity in Christ is different. God’s truth about you does not change based on opinions, attention, or recognition. He already calls you chosen, set apart, and His own.

Not every compliment has to build you up, and not every criticism has to break you down. When you truly know who you are in Christ, you stop depending on people to give you the worth God already gave you.

—————

Prayer:

Lord, help me not to depend on people’s praise for confidence or worth. Teach me to find my identity in You alone and stay grounded in what You say about me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
