Slow Down & Rest

1 Kings 19, Elijah had just gone through a difficult and intense moment. He was exhausted, overwhelmed, and afraid.

But God didn’t immediately tell Elijah to go do the next thing. God let him sleep. Then an angel told him to eat and drink. Elijah ate, drank, and went back to sleep. Then the angel came again and told him to eat because the journey was too much for him.

You don’t always have to go do the next thing. You don’t always have to make the next move. You don’t always have to keep moving.

Sometimes you just need to rest.

And resting does not mean you’re behind. Resting does not mean you’re quitting.

Elijah rested, and God still had a plan for him. His rest did not cancel his calling. It prepared him for the journey ahead.

Sometimes we think we have to constantly do something to prove that we are moving forward. But even Jesus took time to withdraw and pray.

So if you’re tired, rest.

Eat. Sleep. Take a breath. Spend time with God.

You don’t have to figure everything out today.

Sometimes the next move is no move at all.

Sometimes you just need to rest.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I prayed that I am able to rest in your presence in moments I feel rushed in life. For I walk in the timing of yours and not mine and that you accompany me in places and slow my feet so I learn to appreciate where I am and not seeking what’s coming.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that I am able to rest in Your presence in the moments when I feel rushed in life. Help me walk in Your timing and not mine. Accompany me wherever I go and slow my feet so that I can learn to appreciate where I am instead of always seeking what is coming next. Help me remember that I don’t always have to move or rush to the next thing. Sometimes I just need to rest in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
