When I Am Weak, Then I Am Strong

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9–10

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Sometimes we think being weak is a bad thing. We don’t want to admit that we are tired, that we don’t know what to do, or that we can’t handle something. We feel like we always have to be strong and have everything together.

But God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Our weakness gives us an opportunity to rely on God. When we are weak, we get to rest on Him and His power instead of always trying to depend on ourselves.

Sometimes God allows us to come to a place where we realize, “I can’t do this by myself.” And honestly, that’s okay. We were never meant to live like we don’t need God.

When we are tired, we can rest on Him. When we don’t know what to do, we can trust Him. When we feel like we don’t have enough strength, we can depend on His strength.

Paul says, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

He wasn’t saying that being weak automatically makes us strong. He was saying that when we recognize our weakness, we can see how much we need Christ. And when we rely on Him, His power can work through us.

Sometimes we are so focused on trying to become stronger that we forget that we can simply rest on God. We don’t have to carry everything by ourselves. We don’t have to figure everything out by ourselves.

Being weak can remind us to come back to God.

So if you’re feeling weak this week, don’t be ashamed of it. Bring it to God. Rest on Him. Let Him be your strength. His grace is enough for you.

When I am weak, then I am strong, because I know I can rely on Him.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me. When I feel weak, help me not to be ashamed of it, but to remember that I can rely on You. Help me to rest on You and Your power instead of trying to do everything on my own. When I am tired, give me strength. When I don’t know what to do, help me trust You. Remind me that I don’t have to carry everything by myself because You are with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
