Speaker: Saan Pi — Swing Your Sling
Our ancestors used to worship spirits and idols. When they were sick, they would promise to offer chicken or animal blood, sometimes even saying it was cow blood, believing the spirits wouldn’t know the difference. They would be healed for a few months, then become sick again—an ongoing cycle.
One day, missionaries from America came and shared about Jesus, how He died for us, and that if we believe, we will be saved and set free from whatever binds us.
I don’t know what God has put in your heart—maybe it’s missions—but whatever it is, God will see it through.
One moment, while sitting in church, she heard a noise and thought something was wrong with the sound system. Looking around, she realized it wasn’t. Then she heard a small voice in her heart—the sound of David’s sling, still echoing through the ages. Sia Kim Pu asked her to preach at youth service and speak about what God had put on her heart.
📖 1 Samuel 17:45-49
“David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel — you have defied him. Today, the Lord will hand you over to me. Today, I’ll strike you down, remove your head, and give the corpses of the Philistine camp to the birds of the sky and the wild creatures of the earth. Then all the world will know that Israel has a God, and this whole assembly will know that it is not by sword or by spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s. He will hand you over to us.” When the Philistine started forward to attack him, David ran quickly to the battle line to meet the Philistine. David put his hand in the bag, took out a stone, slung it, and hit the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown to the ground.”
What giant are you going to kill? The sound of your sling, will it echo through the ages, will we still talk about it in heaven?
What giant do you have? What giant are you facing today?
— depression?
— bullies?
— school/ career choices?
King Saul tried to give David his armor and help him, but David said he was not trained to use the armor. You will be told that you don’t have the qualifications or skills—which may be true—but David said, “I come in the name of the Lord of Armies.” He didn’t go in his own might or understanding; he went in the name of the Lord. He knew who his God was. The same hands that played music to God were given the ability and power to defeat Goliath.
I want to challenge you to ask yourself: what is it that you are facing today? God has given us a sling in our hands, but we must learn to swing it in the name of our God—not in what we know, but in His name.
According to the law of science, if you hit someone on the forehead, they should fall backward. But God went against nature and science—the giant fell facedown when he was struck by David.
You already have something that God has placed in you. You keep making excuses, saying, “I can’t do this” or “I can’t do that,” but God is asking you to swing, together with Him, in His name.
Remember, just like David, God is fighting our giants.
